Actor Patrick Stewart, known for his roles in Star Trek and X-Men, died at his home in Los Angeles after a "brief and poignant journey" with Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia, according to a statement.
The diagnosis has drawn attention to Lewy body dementia, which CBC Health describes as the second-most common form of dementia. Alzheimer's disease, by comparison, is widely known as a progressive brain disease with no cure.
CBC health reporter Tashauna Reid has produced a video explainer on how Lewy body dementia affects the body. CBC Health also published a separate story reporting that Stewart died at age 86.
